Re: forum boat trip 16th sept

hi guys

looking forward to this especially if it means i can fish and have a bl**dy good banter (normally at richard's expense).

tackle wise, i don't know what the size or time of the tide. An uptide rod capable of casting 10ozs...can get away with upto 8oz. decent reel anything from a 525 mag upto your normal 7000 size reel.

smoothies maybe on the way out but we'll know that closer to the date, but if they are around then crab is the way to go...not that gulp rubbish (the only use for that is sticking under the leg of your box to make it even!!)

there will be plenty of rays and congers about and maybe the first flurry of codling.

I have a good spare 10oz uptider if anyone needs to lend one but you'll have to bring your own reel though.

john

Tackle and Bait........

Uptiding does it best for the majority of species..!!!!!

If last year is anything to go by there should be a few smoothies around especially if the warm weather persists late in to the summer. There will always be the ever present Lesser Spotted Swansea Salmon,in the usual annoying numbers.Conger ,rays (Thornback,Small eye ,Blonde )...Bull Huss...what we fish for will depend on the weather on the day really..Could possibly have a few drifts for bass .

Bait.......Peeler rab,raw tiger prawn, and whole squid for the hounds..crab being the essential ingrediant.Squid mackerel and sandeel are always usefull ,sandeel especially for the rays.Sandeel Dead or artificial for the bass (weather Permitting !! ) And theres always the secret bait approach (which never works Richard .. ).

Tackle..........8oz geminis are essential (wish i had a pound for everytime i say this !!!)..10oz uptiders with ABU 7000 are ideal.Keep the end tackle simple, leave booms and gadgets alone,a simple runniong leger is best, swivel on the end of and a gemini link at the end of the leader, makes baiting up and un hookin fish much easier. The trace 3ft of at least 30lb mono, preferably 50lb,penneel rigged hooks 4/0---6/0 and your fishing !!

Gemini Leads are ESSENTIAL....

Keep the end gear SIMPLE....

Mount baits on PENNEL RIGS...

Re: forum boat trip 16th sept

Looking forward to this trip as our one earlier in the year was a disaster.

I have an Abu 7000 but no uptider so if the offer is still there to borrow one, I would much appreciate it.

What lb'age of line should I fill the reel with?

This is going to be a learning curve for me due to the fact that I have never done any uptiding before.

Kiwi.

Re: forum boat trip 16th sept

rods no problem mate. i won't forget it as i try and always take a spare.

i fish with 20lb then a short leader of 8 foot or so of 60lb.

a 7000 is perfect and you'll get to grips with it no problem. the main thing is getting your bait to hold bottom so the longtailed gemini's are a must in 7 and 8oz..lob it out 30-40yards uptide, thumb the spool till you feel it hit bottom and then let another 20-30yards of line out depending on how hard the tide is pushing through and thats it...

Kiwi.

18 or 20lb mono`s ideal, 50-60lb leader around 25ft is advisable as the ground can be quite adrasive, sure a rod wont be too much of a problem.

Uptidings like drinkin lager .....easy !!!!!...it must be ican do it.
