looking for a trip this summer

Hi

I was thinking about going on a trip in hunt of portbeagles sometime this summer, I do not know the season or the areas that are best. I think off the devon coast is supposed to be best.

If anyone knows a good boat that does it, or runs trips like that themselves could you let me know because Claudia and I would love to have a bash at it this summer if we can

Thanks

Mike

Milford Haven in West Wales is the premier venue for BIG Blues and Porgies these days Mike.....Andrew Allsop (White Water 3) or Alan (Dev-ocean) are top boats, although i think Andrew is booking around 12 months in advance.

Re: looking for a trip this summer

yip i would agree with you there! Milford Haven has really taken off in recent years and I think the Welsh record Blue and Porbeagle have both been broken by this port in the last few years......
if North Devon is easier for you to travel I have read that Bude has some mighty good Porbeagle fishing and think there is a specialist charter targetting them.
Looe in cornwall has always been the top shark fishing port in the UK but I think Milford Haven has come up tops now...

white water 3 is booked for 12 months solid
i just booked my trips with him and could only get next year. also if anyone does want to book him, hes only letting people book the sharking dates if they book for the cod season aswell.

a very nice chap and very informative

Hi Mike,

Steve Porter on True Blue out of Poole is a Shark fisherman, in fact I think that he may well be out today.

Regards

Drew

Re: looking for a trip this summer

Went after blues from Looe 2 years ago but of the 3 boats out only 1 blue was caught (on my boat) but I did have a screaming run off what the skipper reckoned was probably a decent porbeagle. I have since been told that north Devon and north Cornwall are more prolific now and as stated by others West Wales is now the top spot. One thing to remember though is that the only thing you may get a bite from in the whole day are the mackeral for bait - it can be very slow going. The boat I fished on allowed us to fish the one side for whiting etc. to keep us occupied.
