Question 2 stroke oil

Hi all, I have a Suzuki 25 on the back of my dejon and as a complete novice to this game I am wondering what the difference is between marine 2 stroke and normal 'motorcycle' 2 stroke - apart from the price. Surely 2 stroke oil is 2 stroke oil isn't it??

Re: 2 stroke oil

Cheers Mike, i filled the tank with unleaded and added the oil when someone told me that you should only use Marine oil, when i asked why he couldn't tell me but said that there was a difference. Strangley enough he also has a boat yard that sells marine oil.

Re: 2 stroke oil

we've all got are own ideas, so dont shoot me
1 thing i will say is stay well away from stuff aimed at scooters which is of a pinky- red colour unless you want to clean out your carb every time you go out and dont like your engine and want a new one in a year or so time.
the thicker blue and black in colour makes for motor bikes and bigger engines seem quite good
why???? i dont know, but i see enough engines to notice the difference
at work that boats running on "quicksilver " 2 stroke oil are more reliable and last longer and its all i will put in my boats fuel. my engine is a 50hp mercurry of 32 years old , yes its marine oil but at only £18 for 5lt, id say it is not expencive and for me it safer than sorry

also while on about 2 stroke outboards, try to run the carbs dry of fuel every time you finish with the boat, this will also help stop the carbs getting sticky and help with reliability
hope this helps

Re: 2 stroke oil

The answer I always seem to get is that marine 2-stroke oil is more enviromentaly friendly in the sea.

I think it also has something to do with the heat of an outboard, cooler, than a motor-cycle.
