important warning about charter boats !

while in whitby i went out on a 3hr charter trip for £10 with free "tackel" provided. im not sure if tackel is really the right word for it, the rods were about 50yrs old held together with duck tape and the reels were old styly multis where you just turn the spoil
as for end tackel there was a weight with two hooks with muppets on which were rusty and blunt, the line it self looked about the same age as the rods and the reel i had didnt have enough line to reach the bottom (which was only about 130ft) and half of that line wouldnt fit through the roller tip at the end
this did not stop me from catching 2 decent sized macky but the "skipper" didnt really care and was more busy flirting with other people on the boat.
they then at the end of the trip accused me of not paying.
this was by far the worsed organised trip and boat i have seen
the moral of thsi story is not to go out on trips provided for tourists

i went on a trip like this aswel from newquay

there was 1 rod for each person and if u lose the set of tackle you get thats it

and they said you have to keep al fish caught none go back

yup, sounds about right
but it was 9 rods for 12 people at the start, they had only set up 9 rods for the 12 people coming out on the boat so 3 people had to sit and wait for ages while the skipper set em up
and there was quite a big tide as well with 12 people fihsing on a boat smaller than the 1 which we went on the 1st so every time you got tangled

only boats i go on now are proper charter boats

the only other fish were caught were whiting, upto about half a pound and all of them were kept as well

I'm so sorry your holiday was spoilt by this cowboy outfit. steve devon makes one hellova point in saying he only goes on proper charter boats.

One assumes that this boat was indeed licensed to take people fishing, so this kind of idiot only succeeds in dragging down the name of that port from which he operates.

I hope that the good charter skippers of Whitby read the above sometime and hopefully act upon this. Making these summer scavengers crawl back under the rock from which they came.

You can’t even say, “you pays’ your money you takes your choice” in this case because you know as well as I do that you can fish from a good boat for the same money or cheaper e.g. 8 hr trip for £25 to £50.

Best bet…..get local advice from a good tackle store. Hopefully they would guide you straight.

Bad luck Ben, sounds awful.

It's a real shame these people can get away with it.

I know the feeling though, in a port, few hours to kill, chance of a bit of fishing, possibility of a nice fish, we just can't resist it can we?

next time im going up should be boxing day sorta time so im gonna try to book a place on a proper boat, try my hand at abit of cod fishing at whitby in the winter to see if i can beat the record of 56lbs caught out of whitby

for those who hadnt fished before as well they didnt give any advice, it was just "get a rod and start fishing while i have a fag and flirt with some1 younge enough 2 b my daughter"
