New to fishing - heading for the Blackwater

Hi,

Any local advice or tips on boat fishing in the Blackwater off West Mersea gratefully received...I'm heading out on Sat morning and fully expect to come back empty-handed due to absolute rookie status. So far my experience includes one charter trip with Dave Weaving in Feb and...erm...several books about sea fishing.

Anyway, I'm very excited and can't wait to get going, but need some gurus to point me in the right direction.

Sorry I didn't explain it very clearly... I am the skipper! My dad has a boat and we're bringing fishing rods along for the first time.
