Plaice fishing off Eastney todaay.

Well after the last few days of sunbathing weather and naked woman swimming in the warm southsea seas the weather got wind of my fishing trip and went all wintry
I d planned to take the works boat out fishing with the lads and as usual it was drizzling, sod it we ll go out anyway was the decision ,so with the boat covered in rods so it resembled a floating hedgehog we steamed out (6knts ) to the blocks off Eastney.
The weather out at the blocks was pretty windy aboout 20knts ,so much for the BBC forcast of 10knts ,and as the rain came down it was bloody freezing.
Tackle for the day was very light fixed spool gear with running ledgers onto a very short 8 inch snood covered in shiney stuff baited with rag and squid.
The plan was to just drift about really hoping to stumble across the odd Plaice and it didnt take long before the first one was landed ,nothing big only about 1 lb.
A good start but it didnt continue this way a couple of hours later and we had no more Plaice to show for our efforts.
We moved inshore a bit and within minutes three of the lads were into Plaice, again nothing big.
The rest of the day continued very slowly and by 1300 we had about 6 plaice between 10 rods ,one of the lads had caught 4 whilst i hadnt even had a bight.
Just when i was thinking of taking the boat back in a sulk i got a knock which resulted in a plaice of about 1 lb,another one was landed ,i then had another of about 2lb .
By this time the wind had died and the sun was shining down ,last chuck of the day and i got another of 2lb.
So from nothing to 3 plaice in an hour ,i cheered up a bit and stopped been a mardy bum
All in all we had 10 plaice between 10 of us ,not a very good day really but we had a laugh and we all agreed Plaice fishing isnt very exciting really
Sod paying for a charter to catch plaice

Nice one John, sounds an enjoyable day, even if the fishing was a bit slow

Thumbs up Re: Plaice fishing off Eastney todaay.

Any Plaice in a storm mate. I'd be quite happy with a 2lb plaice. Good report John.
