monkey nuts is a jewel in the roughmonkey nuts is a jewel in the roughmonkey nuts is a jewel in the rough
hard work on the high seas

myself and lee have been looking forward to this for some time but we got a trip out at last
so we head out on wight reble @ 7 and the fist thing we heard on the way out was the coast gaurd forcast giving f5-6, so it was to rough to get out on the 9 mile mark, so we thought we would head in to brook ledges for some conger and rays, but the saying" fish bite least when the wind is in the east " rang true with us only getting a couple of skanky pout and the skipper getting the only conger, so by midday we moved to a different part of the ledges and it was still dead .
after a chat with the skipper we decided to head to fresh water ridges for some rays,
after a slow start we started to get the dogfish move in and slowly things got a little better around high water with 4 rays landed ,me with a spotted ray of about 3lb , lee with a small eyed of 4lb ( a personal best). gary with a small eyed of about 4lb and bob with a nice sized small eyed ray of about 7lb.
the poxey dogs kept coming but for once thay were welcome on kept a very tough days fishing
to sum up the day it was very hard work but still a great day out none the less, as the big one is still there for next time
still puzzles me how fish know which way the wind blows

Re: hard work on the high seas

Well reported john ,
yes a very tough day indeed , it amazes me how much you boat anglers hate the dogs , as i would rather catch dogs than nothing at all , there again i am a newbie boat angler !!!! laugh of the day , john throwing a doggie back and a gull swoops down and picks it right out of the sea !!!!!!!!.......
have to add this pic to claim our points for the species hunt !!!!!!

a first small eyed for me , so well chuffed !!!!!!

lee.

slicarp is on a distinguished road
Re: hard work on the high seas

yeah congrats lads good angling , just a quick thought though but the first fish pic looks more like a small blonde ray as these are the only ray to have spots that reach the extremes of its wings where as the others all fall about an inch short .........mmmmmmmmm food for thought..what do you think??
