Mullet Fishing I'm thinking of going after the mullett in Portishead marina on Saturday and need advice on the best tackle to use. I have a choice of borrowing a course rod and my own spinning reel or using my telescopic beach caster and fixed spool beach reel. Which would be best? I assume the beach kit will be too heavy duty for the job although the rod is quite responsive (would it work paired with a spinning reel?). Rig and bait wise I'm guessing a lightweight freshwater float on a fine, light line (1 - 2 lb???) with bread flake on hooks of about 10 or 12, is this about right? Also plenty of ground bait. Looking forward to trying to catch mullett as they look like fun!

Re: Mullet Fishing the lightest tackle is best almost couse fishing officials at exmouth marina dont allow rod and line for the mullet anymore and patrol regulary now __________________ Rapidly becomeing a serial blanker www.exmouthsaa.co.uk I have the body of a God, Pity its Buddha :-0

Re: Mullet Fishing Thanks, in laws are on holiday now though so can't get the course rod. Might use my old 6 foot starter rod, it's been lucky for me in the past (I actually caught a fish on it once!!!!)

Re: Mullet Fishing yea thats were alot of ppl go wrong they try and bully the fish in and also try and fish so that you can hook the fish and then move well away from your own groundbait to play it so that you dont spook all the other fish that could be feeding in your groundbait! alot of ppl i have seen hook the fish in the ground bait and play it in the seem spot. they rush to get the fish in and out of the way so not to disturb any others and that results in more splashing on the surface and the odd lost fish and i think i causes more of a disturbance than playing the fish from another *swim* and taking your time __________________ fishing for fish is not as simple as you may think!
