Surf fishing ? Spinning or Casting ?

I'm extremely new to surf fishing and I've gone with friends a few times. I absolutely love it.
All my experiance is with freshwater fishing. Every rod I've ever had was a bait caster of some type. I favor the baitcaster over spinning gear on freshwater.
I've seen most Surf fishermen using spinning gear 99% of the time in the locations I've been at.
Is spinning gear preferable or can I stick with my choice of Bait casting gear?

Ha yeah it took me a while to get used to it. The one thing I like about bait casters is you have the ability to control your cast all the way through, from back draw untill the lure/bait hits the water. With spinning tackle the only way to control the cast is in the swing and release.

Re: Surf fishing ? Spinning or Casting ?

Hey Mavrik, over here the shore anglers seem to use a mixture of both fixed spool and multiplier reels, both seem to do the job, tho multipliers seem to have the edge for cranking in heavy weights, in the tackle shop i work in, we seem to sell 2 multipliers to every one fixed spool
