7ht reel Advice please. I've bought a used 7ht reel . Never used a multiplier -- heard all about the dreaded bird-nest so would prefer to start with maximum braking !!!!. The reel came with 3 different size coloured tubes and 2 small copper ?? discs. The tubes slide onto the arms but what do I do with the discs (keep It clean OK) What combination of tubes and discs would I need for maximum braking. For beach casting what method should I try to start with ??.The easiest please !!!. Many thanks DBM

Re: 7ht reel ....Sounds to me like they could be spare washers for the clutch???? Also, the reel should already have brake blocks in...they will be different size blocks you have, for different braking tension.... The 7HT is ideal for first time users of multipliers...you can virtually use it straight from the box...just tighten the brakes right up and start casting, loosening the brakes until you find what you're comfortable with... What I suggest you do when you fill it with mainline and leader is this... Hang your lead from the mainline (Obviously reel on rod!!!! ), and with a fully tightened brake, slowly loosen the brake until the lead begins to fall, when the lead hits the floor and the reel overruns, just tighten slightly, keep doing this so that when the lead hits the floor, the reel doesn't overrun, this will be your ideal casting tension, and when you start becoming fully knowledged with the reel, then you can start loosening the brake, to gain those extra yards....Hope that all makes sense mate... ![]()

Re: 7ht reel Its not a turbo. When you said adjust the brake I thought you meant the drag!!!. Now Ive found the brake-- tightened it slightly and your method real works. Would I need the thumb at the end of the cast to stop the reel completely ???. Tomorrow I'll give it my best shot --- if its not to cold !!!. Thank you all -- what would we beginners do without you !!!

Re: 7ht reel If you set the reel so that when the lead hits the floor, the spool will just stop dead. you shouldn't actually have to thumb the spool...
