Spinning with braid.

Just got a spinning set up and was going to fish with 10lb braid on me reel,
me question is do i kneed a mono shockleader on this or do you fish the braid straight through. Avnt got a clue really.

Allso have any of you dorset fishermen fished at redcliffe bay near Bowleaze cove. Saw a right up on the place and it looks rather goooood.

Tony Bolton and meself should be fishing here tomorrow if he ever decides to phone me, any takers welcome.

Re: Spinning with braid.

you can use a shockleader, but i would rather use the braid straight through.if your worried about it getting caught up on anything use a shockleader.

Smile Re: Spinning with braid.

I know some people advocate using a length of monofil line, not so much as a shock leader as used for beachcasting when using heavy weights, but to absorb the strain of any snatches & lunges that a big fish may make as it allows a bit of stretch. Clear mono is also less visable to the fish. Using a slightly lower breaking strain than your braid also acts as a rotten bottom & it prevents you losing all your expensive braid if you snag up. You will also need a good fixed spool reel with a good oscillating line lay to prevent the braid bedding down on the spool as this will cause problems when casting. Hope this helps.

Cool Re: Spinning with braid.

and other really good reason to use Mono leader. If you grab that braid with your bare hand and that fish moves. The braid will cut you to the bone and thats the last thing you want. And i agree with having a little give, less pressure on your reel and pole if its a good size fish. And you will get more bites if you are using clear mono or fluro (even better) for a leader...

Re: Spinning with braid.

I was taught to use monofilament as a backing and then your braid. I also use a leader when using braid. Becareful with the stuff though, It's like a saw and chews up your guides and eyelets. I try to get the ss304 stainlessteel eyelets for best results with that stuff. Hope this helps!
