| Re: any fished illfracombe pier l8ly Haven't fished it lately but have fished it this time of year. Doggies are the best bet there at this sort of time, maybe a conger off the rocky area at the end in the dark. The good thing about fishing there this time of year is there's space to fish, as soon as the mackie season arrives you can't get near the pier for tinsel flickers. The new part of the pier can be under water on spring highs but the old part of the pier is fine. The only other mark in the area I know of is Watermouth Bay which can be fished from the beach or the rocks on the right (but only if you have others with you) but I'm not sure how well it fishes there at this time of year. Could also try the rocks to the right of Combe Martin beach which I think look promising but haven't seen fished very often (watch out for the rising tide though). |

| Re: any fished illfracombe pier l8ly I've usually caught from the lower section of pier just casting straight out about 70m or so. It is quite clean ground from the middle of the new section and gets rocky as you get to the end which is where there's some good conger caught. For bait I've just used mackeral or sand eels with simple paternoster rigs but I'm sure pulleys or pennels would be fine. I'vew only ever fished mid tide up and back down but on higher tides the lower part of the pier can be covered. I've only fished there myself a couple of times so I'm not sure if this is the best advice but it has worked for me. You might get lucky and catch an early bass, you never know! |
