Which line?

I'm going to be using a 2 1/2 lb test curve carp rod for light sea fishing, float work in the summer and hopefully some plaice off Brighton marina very soon.
There seems to be a hell of a choice of different lines these days but how about 12lb stren original main and Penn long distance surf 25lb as a shock leader as I can't really envisage using more than a couple of ounces on that set up.
More choice of colours as well, high viz yellow line and orange leader?

Thanks Paul

Re: Which line?

Ah!
I've just noticed the ad for Braid Direct at the bottom of the screen.
The 70m spools of amnesia look a better option for the shock leader.

Re: Which line?

why not just go for some braid! good for that set up if your planning to use a float or spin at some point!

Re: Which line?

i don't like hi vis myself. why not try 25lb braid straight through, it's about the same diameter as the 12lb mono.

Re: Which line?

Thanks for the advice guys!
I have to say I've gone ahead and ordered some mono although I certainly will try some braid when I get back into the swing of things. I could be wrong but I think I remember reading somewhere that braid can bed down in the spool?I don't suppose it can be much of a problem as it appears to be a very popular type of line.

Cheers, Paul

Re: Which line?

i've only tried braid on a multiplier and found it hard to hold the spool during the cast. it does bed in a bit, but i don't think it will affect your distance as it's so thin.

Re: Which line?

braid & multiplier - wouldn't recommend it for casting

braid & fixed spool - best combo for spinning over clean ground, not so good over rocks
