| Re: rusty hooks? Myself I would just bin them One little tip is to only take what you need on your fish trip and store your stock in a nice dry place, and never remixing them back together. This way when the water gets at them it will only effect a few . Ok I know I do not do it all the time myself but it only takes a few packs to go in the bin to get me back into breaking them down and storing the rest . __________________ Richard|Sea Fishing |Carp Fishing| Spud Gun | Zander fishing | Fishing Reports | Hunting Reports |

| Re: rusty hooks? Break the hooks down in to small quatntities, seal them in the little self seal plastic bags you can get from office supply shops.Better still, make up traces before hand and take those in the sealed bags. You can give the rusty hooks a wash off in WD40 that wont harm any bait and will inhibit the rust... ![]() __________________ Mike.. | Re: rusty hooks? ive herd the wd40 is good on fish baits as it brakes down the oils fast! ive used it once or twice piking and it seems to do the job! (who realy knows) but heard it will almost melt a lug worm on the spot (the most popular bait down my way) but cant see it would hurt with a quick squrt and a whipe on the t shirt before baiting up! il defo do that now as my garage is pretty damp! just miffed to loose a box of 50 mustad hooks think i only used 2 of em last year! im tight like that! lol oh well live and learn! __________________ SCUPPER A COMMERCIAL TOOOO DAY! |

| Re: rusty hooks? i would bin them. i bin every hook after it's been used (even just for 1 cast). if you buy them in 100's you don't waste too much money. obviously the best tip is to keep your bits dry, but if they are prone to getting moisture i've heard that if you put a few grains of rice in you're packet/ box then it will absorb the moisture. hence saving the hooks. thinking about it i have cleaned hooks buy soaking them in vinegar for a day or so, then washing them off, then drying on newspaper. might be worth a go. |

| Re: rusty hooks? If those hooks only have very light rust & are still sharp, I would still use them. Just keep them seperate from any good hooks. __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... |

| Re: rusty hooks? You may be able to get hooks in a non-ferrous metal like stainless steel or brass to avoid the rusing problem. I tend to chuck rusted hooks. Even by the pack they are cheap enough. How would one of those silicone gun clothes work for rust prevention? |
