Hi.

Chesil Beach is a fantastic beach if you know how and where to fish it. Unfortunatly it is far from an easy beach to fish. It is highly unlikely that I will fish the beach now until the end of March when the Plaice start to make an apearance.
I often post reports of how the beach is fishing so keep checking out the forum. Best bet for a fish at the moment is a night session on Portland or try fishing Portland Harbour around Ferrybridge or Sandsford Castle. Best conditions are when the wind is Easterly as it should be for most of this week.

It's nice to see a youngster on the forum, welcome to both you and your dad. I fish Portland and Chesil fairly often with my son who's 10. Like you we have not had much luck on Chesil but have had some really great float fishing trips to Portland Bill in the summer. We fish mackerel strip on a small barbless hook and catch endless pollack and garfish. You are welcome to join us any time for a fishing trip. We tend not to fish Chesil and prefer places like Church Ope as there is a greater variety of fish especially in the summer.

In the mean time have a look at my Portland and Chesil fishing website at www.portlandbill.co.uk/fishing and don't forget to email me if you want to go fishing.

All the best.

Jon

Have to disagree with you there John. You would be hard pushed to find anywhere with more varieties of fish than Chesil Beach. It is just quite a difficult beach to fish unless you fish it a lot and know what is happening.

OK Sean, point taken. I must admit that I just go down there and park somewhere close half a dozen times a year and chuck a bait or two in. I can't walk far with all my gear due to my back and usually fish between the pub and the Masonic car park as I have free parking there. As for rigs, I usually use a two hook flapper and rag or squid. Occasionally I'll put out a whole squid on a Pennel rig for the Bass but as yet no takers. The Bass rig goes out 20-30yds and the flapper as far as I can chuck it, whis about 80yds.

Yeah but it was still a case of chucking in a bait and see what's there. Chesil is such a vast expanse of beach that getting to know it is like learning to be a London taxi driver.
