Re: personal best fish

hi trigger.
its def a flounder m8,
my best came on an open comp at fareham creek ( years ago, i was a teenager.)
it weighed in at 2lb 6oz 5drms.
with 2 others it got me top spot overall

best sole was about 1.25lb.

caught a few dabs and an odd turbot but didn't weigh any on em.

Re: personal best fish

Bit long winded but i remember it like the first time i "had sex"

My PB is a 24lb Cod caught off the Marina Esplanade, Ramsgate last Sat b4 Xmas about 30 years ago around 14:00 in broad daylight!!! (Mr Creedy will know the place)

1st Cast, ABU 7000 with 32 lb line straight through with an 8oz grapnel as there was a strong NW and the sea had a good swell and colour
I was using large White Cat Rag that my brother had dug.

My rod whacked over with in minutes of settling and as I struck I was like hitting a rock, I managed to get it to the steps but was worried the line would go through the railings.

Went down the steps nearly getting wash in!!!!!!! (Wouldn’t do that sort of thing now)
And levered the cod round so I am at bottom of the steps and the cod is above me, the hook straightened and the Cod fell onto the top step laying parallel to the steps!!!I chucked me rod n`reel down and managed to grab it.

It coughed up two whiting and a flat fish, knocked it on the head and stuck it behind my rod rest, so as the people out for an afternoon walk had to step over it.

Most people commented about it, and I had to mention that is only my "first cast", I never had a bite after that but I didn’t care.

Best fish I think I will ever catch...but all fish are precious these days and I think I would put it back if I caught one that big again...
