Q: Where to park in Dungeness

I will try Dungeness this Friday night, or perhaps Sat, for the first time. Wish me luck. If I can brave the night option I will try for my first cod!!! {big cheesy grin}

So where's the best place to fish? Immediately in front of the power station? Or perhaps 500m to the East or West of it? Where do the powerstation's hot sea outlet pipes exit? That should be a good spot to fish...

Also, where is a good place (i.e. closest place to the fishing spot) to park? I've examined the maps, but I'm not sure. A road appears to end on the coast 800m East of the main building of the power station (bordering the danger area). Is it possible to park there?

Another road appears to end 800-1000m NNE of the power station. Is it possible to park there?

Thanks people!

Re: Q: Where to park in Dungeness

hello mate, good choice dungie, just remember its a very popular venue especially at this time of year, its generally shoulder to shoulder down there at the weekend.
hving said that, its one of my favourite venues and always throws up the odd lunker every winter,
to get there you will need to follow the signs for lydd airport, once you pass that you will go over a railway bridge and immeadiately take a left fork, half a mile further you will come to a roundabout.take a left there and follow the road right into dungeness.
about 2 miles further on the road bears left ,at that point you will need to take the right turning, this is the dead end road into dungie, half a mile further on you will see the lifeboat station on your left and just past that there will be a road on the left with a barrier across it,park on the compacted shingle opposite this road, walk under the barrier and down the road it turns right after about 100 yards and you will then be walking parallel to the beach, anywhere along there is good,if you walk a little further and line up the two lighthouses you will more or less be on what is called the point,
the tides are the strongest there but it can be worth it,
best of luck when you go,don't forget your lamp, its bloody dark down there.

Thumbs up Re: Q: Where to park in Dungeness

Hi Mark,

What time do you estimate you would be getting there... as I have fished there a few times and managed to always catch fish...

I may come down on Friday night the tides are
Time Type Height (metres)
1807 High 5.7 - Fri
0051 Low 3.1 - Sat
0630 High 6.0 - Sat

10 Day weather forecast predicts:
Low:
-1°C
Scattered Showers
Wind:From the Northwest at 11 mph
Precip: 60 %
Max. Humidity: 81 % ....

I usually park on the gravel area on the right just past the iron gate... if the iron gate is open don't be tempted to drive through because it gets locked .

If I go down after work I would expect to be there about 8:00pm (20:00 hrs).

Let me know if you are definately going and I will try and meet up with you if you like.

Pheonix (John)

Re: Q: Where to park in Dungeness

Thanks for the info John. Thurs/Fri are both looking like good days to fish as it will be the first bit of wind after a long quiet spell. (I'm speaking purely theoretically now as I still need to rack up my experience points!)

My fishing buddy has dropped out and as he has the car I have invited another buddy. So not sure if I'll be able to make it after all now! But I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for the invite though. I definitely want to fish Dungeness, and aim to fish once a month, so I'm sure we'll end up fishing together sooner or later.

btw, where do you get your tidal statistics from?

Hi Mark,

The Tide calendar I use is at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/coast/t...outheast.shtml

By the way I fish Deal Pier aswell, and I believe the Cod are arriving there now.

The Weather 10 day forecast I get from: http://uk.weather.com/weather/local/...&code=code&y=0

Thanks for the cod catching tip Paul. Precisely where in Dover are these good spots? I might opt for one of them over Dungeness, especially if the walk from the car is less...

Re: Q: Where to park in Dungeness

the breakwater is about 1/2 to 3/4 mile long and is a pier that is detatched from the land,it is i suppose about a mile off shore,it is reached by boat and can be extremely good fishing,it is fishable from both sides (outer and inner that is ) and is swept with some very strong tides.
it is an excellent venue for many different species, bass are one of them, the shore caught record of 19lb some odd came from there,i have witnessed 2 doubles on there,
cod are the main quarry in the winter, years ago 20 and 25 pounders were common out there ,they are not so now but codling are still plentiful and the odd biggie still turns up,i heard of a 28 pounder only last week.
the boat only operates on wednesday, saturday and sunday and will not run if there is a force 5 or over forecast so listen out for that mornings shipping forecast.
its a bit exposed out there,it can get very cold and wet and there is very little shelter, havin said that it has an age restriction (18 and over only) and it is limited to 213 anglers so it won't get too crowded and you won't be troubled by pedestrians or spotty kids saying "got anyfink mister"
i posted a set of instructions for somebody recently on how to get there,if you can't find it give me a shout,
best of luck mate.

Hi Mark (Mark Davies)

I haven't seen a report on your fishing trip..... did you make it to Dungeness?? or Dover??

Let us know how you got on

Fished Deal Pier Saturday night just gone... a bit of a let down only saw two codling all night (6:30 pm to 4:30 am), and they weren't mine, should have gone to Dungeness .
