Re: Kings Downs Butts

it's very underated and under fished.

fish at night, over high water, with rotten bottom, heavy main line, crab or yellows and squid tip for bait (crabs can be a prob sometimes so crab is a better bait imo).

i would suggest you take a look at low water, there's a small hole about 3/4 of the way along the wall. you can just see it near the low water mark. fish in the hole and you won't go far wrong. take a drop net just incase.

good luck mate.

Re: Kings Downs Butts

it's under the first bit of the white cliffs, going from deal in kent.

it used to get fished alot about 15/ 20 years ago for cod and bass but is a bit neglected now. it is a bit snaggy and doesn't look like you can fish it as it's on a dis used firing range, bit of a locals only venue. if you know what i mean.

Re: Kings Downs Butts

Hi Big Guy

I know the venue, but never remember it being called Kings Down Butts.

Last time I fished there was about 24 years ago, don't remember lots of Cod but lots of whiting .

I used to walk with my grandparents along the cliffs from Hawksdown to Kingsdown and back.

That's why I used to fish there on occassions.... tried infront of Warmer Castle 2 Saturdays ago after all night on the pier... tide was coming in and I fished with lug, bait was not lasting long and only had some very smallpout of the beach, the pier had been better.

Re: Kings Downs Butts

the butts must just be a nick name. theres been write ups by yates in back issues of the main mags. but like i say not really fished that much so not many reports any more.

walmer castle should be loaded with whiting, haven't had time to go bashing down there yet this year though.

Re: Kings Downs Butts

Not far from the Butts back towards Deal is Boundary Road. Over low water there are a few codling showing, all around the 1.5 - 2 lb mark. Again though it is a bit snaggy and you do need to cast a fair way out.

I walked along Deal pier today, fishing looked great if you like small pouting and whiting with the odd doggy thrown in. Not my cup of tea, waiting for the wind to blow again (cod time).
