fishing for whiting

we are going fishing down porthcawl tomorrow, hoping to catch a few whiting what would be the best bait to use plz

When I've caught whiting they've been on lug, rag or squid. However, they've all been quite small except 1 that went just over 1lb.

I think the best bait for the bigger whiting is a sliver of mackerel belly

to be honest mate you cant really go wrong with catching them things lol get loads on blow lug whites and mack strip just fished on a one up one hook down rig

Squid strips,mackerel,worms all great for whiting,plus the chance of a cod at the same time....

what you want is a wish bone rig , they are brilliant for whiting's . i got snagged with my 2 hook trace , so i snapped it , then when i put my wish bone rig on , i pulled up a whiting in seconds ! trust me it works , put a ragworm on one hook , and a peeler crab on the other . you a bound to catch one :)

hi all, caught 14 the other night at eastbourne between my oh and me all small, the 2 largest were 1.5lb and 1lb, we had 1 hook with either squid or lug and the other with makeral and never got 1 on the squid or lug

I was out last week whitie bashing ..............caught 41 (all returned alive ).................use mackerel strip and squid

havent fished porthcawl for awhile, are you fishing the pier or locks common.

down my way the big fish (over 2lb) come up on whole squid, the big bait doesn't get attacked by the smaller ones as much.

if your bashing the best bait is prob fresh macky or herring. if you want more of a variety of fish aswell as the whiting then lug/squid strip, lug/macky or herring.
