Question Advice on pier rods

Can anyone suggest a decent pier rod for my 11year old son.
We've both recently taken up fishing and I bought him an 11ft Bass rod. This has been ideal for him so far, as it was good for spinning, float and using weights, upto 3oz. On problem we have found is on the pier, where there is a high railing all around.( Blyth Pier for those that know it). He is having difficulty reeling in with a large rod.
Is there any rods, about 9ft or 7ft if they make them, that would do for the job. It needs to be a fixed spool type. Atleast he can use the Bass rod as a Beachcaster.
Any advice would be appreciated ANDY A

Re: Advice on pier rods.

Hi Andy.

You could try an uptider rod. Most of them are around 9ft in length. Whilst they are not realy designed for fixed spool reel, you could easily use on without any problems.

Re: Advice on pier rods.

I`d agree ,an uptider will be ideal, especially a 6-10oz rated one, strong enough to lift fish upto a couple of pounds out on to the pier.
