first time out on kayak....

Been out this evening trying fishing from my Ocean Kayak Frenzy for the first time, gentle off shore breeze, slight swell and sun setting on the sea horizon (i was just happy to be out there!). done both fishing and kayaking but until now never both at same time, so fashioned a rod holder attached to the back of my seat and thought id give it a go!! Rigged up a simple spinning rig with 1oz barrel lead and 2ft leader to a eddystone type eel. set reel drag realy low then cast out and trolled my way across the bay.....got caught in some weed/rocks! once that was sorted off i went again across bay and back again. somewhere in the same region as before i got the tell-tale sing from the reel...snagged again i think. well i start to reel and once i get it moving its hard going. ever the pessimist i think 'blimey i must have weed attached'. soon it becomes clear that this isnt the case and along-side comes a beautiful 1.5-2lb young (ie greeny) ballan wrasse. WOW....! ive never managed to catch one of them from the shore!! im hooked!! (excuse the pun!!)

does anyone know how i can post pics with posts? how do i get administration to allow it?

I watched an extreme fishing video the other night of 5 blokes fishing using Ocean going Kayaks to get to their marks.

They caught Kingfish and Snapper of rock marks in New Zealand.

Huuuuuge fish

Could be an idea in places on the south coast with small tides, you could use one to get to marks no-one can get to and fish your head off!

Re: first time out on kayak....

yeh i was casting out a little way to one side then paddling across the bay trying to go across likely looking areas and drifting with the tide/breeze as well. in guernsey our tide goes up and down about 35ft or something crazy so there are loads of rocky/reefy areas that you cant get to fishing from the land and you wouldnt be able to get a boat into either. so on a kayak i should be able to get to some 'unfished' marks without going to far.

I started with a rapala shallow diving lure got no action so changed for the imitation eel.
