Aberdeen Harbour whats the best way

Hi im new to the forum and just getting back into fishing after twenty years. I used to course fish when i was a boy but just recently im wanting to do some more fishing and having seen somebody fishing the harbour at Aberdeen (Pocra Key) so I went out and had a go yesterday at high tide with just a flat silver spoon lure for about an hour. Now i have not the first idea wether this was a good set up but i did catch one small codling (8inches) by trawling the lure along close to the harbour wall.
So two things really. Any advice on fishing the harbour at Aberdeen or near by and more specifically ive heard the makkrel are coming down the coast and is there any chance of getting them at Aberdeen.
I might eventually get into beach casting but at the moment im just using my old course gear (12 foot rod) (light spinning reel) I dont want to go investing in loads of kit yet until i know i am at least looking in the right place at the right time with the right rig, bait setup etc.
Cheers

Thanks for the welcome.
I had another go this evening and had a few bites but nothing sucesfull.
If makerel were at Peterhead last week in small numbers and in larger numbers at newburgh then im hopeing they should turn up here in Aberdeen soon. If not i will head down to Stonehaven and see what the action of the pier is there.

if you are fishing for mackerel at the beginning of july onwards i would recommend feathers , and those silver holographic flasher things three hook or 4 , with a 4 oz weight , caste it out as far as you can and wind it in slowly but fast enough to avoid rock tangling, cod can be caught as well.
