| Dabs Star in Crab Fest Now I wouldn’t call myself an expert by a long shot, more of a very occasional opportunist. However, I had the pleasure of a few days last week in Peterhead, so dusted off the rods, greased up the reels and headed for the breakwater, next to the main harbour. I tried mackerel, squid, crab and combinations of all three (it would have been four if the tackle shop had any rags) on various rigs; hook sizes and casting distances from the breakwater. At first I wasn’t bothered by what I caught, but after a day of catching starfish and crabs I was a bit reticent to venture back. However given the choice of the local amenities off I went the next day. Dabs galore, all specimens, about 5 or 6 inches long and they all fought like salmon on steroids! Okay so the fish were as limp and transparent as this note, but spending a couple of days in the fresh air, catching something was well worth the round trip of about 1100 miles. I’ll be going back hopefully next year to visit the relatives again and have another couple of days on the breakwater. In the meantime if anyone has got any tips on how to catch a bigger sort of fish and a seal repellent then do let me know. |

| Re: Dabs Star in Crab Fest Welcome to the fishing forum Lovely read and must say it was a lovely few days at peterhead breakwater The great thing about fishing is that there is always next time Suppose thats why they call it `fishing ` and not `catching` __________________ Richard|Sea Fishing |Carp Fishing| Spud Gun | Zander fishing | Fishing Reports | Hunting Reports |

| Re: Dabs Star in Crab Fest Perhaps I should have mentioned that my guide for the Peterhead excursion was the Big Dog himself, Richard C. He obviously has far more experience and that showed in the plethora of variety of his bag compared to mine. A particular Collie (is that right?) caught my eye (and his hook) RC was fishing on the more difficult outer wall into the wind and casting over to the beaches of Norway. But as he told me ‘it’s nothing to do with the braid, multiplier or 10oz beach-caster, its all technique – mate!’ Personally I think it might be his uncanny ability to think like a fish! Mate – MY EYE! |
