Saltwater Fly Fishing

Has anyone tried fly fishing for salt water fish? I used to fly fish a lot in fresh water and thought it may be good idea to take a fly rod to the beach with me as I'm too impatient and find myself reeling in all the time with my beach rod. I was just wondering what sort of size fly rod and reel is needed and also what type of line to use. I assume sinking line with big lures is the best bet. Would have thought it could be quite a challenge landing a hard fighting fish from the sea on a reasonably light weight fly rod.

Re: Saltwater Fly Fishing

Yes, I think I'm going to give it a try on my old fly kit and if I enjoy it I'll buy a new fly rod and reel. That's the whole point in it, even a 1lb mackerel will give a good fight on light tackle. I've been reading up on some other sites and forums. One guy had 21 small bass up to 1lb the one day and 25 the next!!!! I'd settle for one or two though :-)
