Regulations for seatrout?

Hi, could you help a Swedish fisherman out. What does UK regulations say about catching seatrout in the sea along the coast? For instance, if you happen to get one when you are fishing for something else like Mackerell? Is it a season when you can target seatrout at sea?
In sweden you are allowed to take any fish caugth along the coast at any time if it's above minimum length, I think it's 35cm for seatrout.

Re: Regulations for seatrout?

Bjorn,

I recently asked the same question t is to be found in the sea fishing/beach and pier section, there were many informed answers..In fact it is posted about 4 places below your posting.

The general answer seems to be that it is an offence to keep a sea trout caught from the shore unless you have a licence. The penalties are severe. However most anglers seem to think that the odd one is insignificant regarding stocks and providing it was big enough they would keep it.

That's just what commercial licensed fishermen and the NFFO want to read!

How can we expect them to keep to EUFP rules and SFC Byelaws if we pass on these kinds of messages?

Anyone wishing to fish for or take salmon or sea trout on rod and line in England and Wales must hold an Environment Agency rod licence, although this does not in itself confer a right to fish on private waters.
The same applies to anglers taking sea trout from the sea.

Salmon and Sea Trout licences cost £66.50 per year ending March 31st and cover trout and coarse angling too. They can be bought from Post Offices or online.

It is an offence to take sea trout from waters in the UK and Wales without an EA licence and fines range to £2500 for taking sea trout without a licence.

Sorry, that's the law.
