Advice on Broken Penn Rod Please I recently took my youngest son fishing for the first time where he caught (well retrieved) his first fish. Unfortuately he was so exited about this, that while my rod was drying off later, after I had given it a wash down, he managed to get hold of it and tried to do a bit of fishing in the kitchen. The end result was that he managed to break the rod about half way between the tip ring and the penultimate ring. The rod is a Penn Surfbaster Seatrek Twintip and it is the heavy tip that he has broken. My first question is : What is the likelyhood that the rod was faulty? I have only had it since Christmas and have probably onlt used it about 8 times catching nothing bigger than a 12" whiting. I find it hard to believe that a 2 year old has enough strength to break a rod. I live in hope that one day I might even catch a fish weighing almost as much as him. My second question is that the tackle shop where I bought the rod from has suggested simply putting a new tip ring onto the broken end. Would this be OK, or should I try and replace the whole section? Thanks Steve.

Re: Advice on Broken Penn Rod Please Thanks, guys. I have received at private message from Penn, saying that they may be able to replace the broken section, but as the rods are individually built, they will require the whole rod back to find a best match. I will let you know how I get on. Steve.

Re: Advice on Broken Penn Rod Please I broke the end off a Daiwa Moonraker about 15 years ago, added a new tip ring and still use it as my near shore rod, it feels fine and is good in windy conditions as the tip doesn't bob around much. I've cast full power with it hundreds of times too, no sign of any more damage occuring. So even if Penn won't fix it it's not all bad :-) __________________ Blessed are the Cheese Makers......

Re: Advice on Broken Penn Rod Please Well as I had already started the process of returning the broken section to Penn through the tackle dealer I bought the rod from, I continued along this route with the whole rod. Unfortunately when I phoned last week to check on its progress, the rod still had not been picked up. At which point the tackle dealer offered for £20, to replace the broken section from one of his new rods in stock. As it was probably going to cost me this much to post and pack the rod back to Penn, if I sent it myself, I accepted the offer. The first new section we tried fitted perfectly and was tested on Sunday. Now I just wish I could catch some fish. Steve.
