Guide To Budliegh Salterton

well as i spend too much time there thought ought to post a guide to
Budliegh Salterton

With a very rough guide to fishing
this is the main beach (from infront of boats) looking west

the beach shallows as you head further along and the best place for flatties is in front of the green"scar" in the hill, head this way to be alot quieter in summer as crowds do not usually go that way, there is a reef up this way where conger are caught, but never found ,and right at the end if fit there are bull huss
The whole beach is made up of big stones with sand about 30yrds out, shelving steeply .
to the right of this picture is the main road wher you can park for 2 hour free(get there from 4pm as after 6 is free till 8 am!!)
this whole area near the road gets very busy with tinsel flingers in summer months and you will be battling with tourists as well, but off peak will be quieter, like this morning, when i took photos
this is the main beach looking east

the water is deeper this end, high tide in the dark gives loads of doggies, pout. also makkie, garfish, gurnard and pollock
the main car park is behind the beach huts too the left but is 70p per hour 24/7 365 days a year now
at the far end of the beach is the otter mouth, there is a rocky outcrop for 200yrds+ at end with wrasse and Bass and occasional sea trout, best fished 2 hours up and 1 down, spinning and plugging is good over the mouth
this is the otter mouth over high tide(taken couple of days ago)

there is a pool in the river formed by the otter head that holds thin lipped mulletThe pool is mainly shallow and weedy, with a few deep spots, only worth trotting a float here
You can then fish up the river otter right to the metal bridge with chain gate beside(free fishing ends here)mullet, flatties and trout have been seen up here as well, no live bait allowed in river as nature reserve, nice walk along with good pub at otterton as well

this is the otter pool

Distance casting is not required at Budliegh unless hunting the Plaice

Best baits at Budliegh are Rag,makkie and sandeel, crab worth a try at Otter mouth

There are bins all along the front to put rubbish in(saves leaving on beach) and main road is lit so safe in eve, Otter head can be dark and feels more remote.
Nearest tackle shops are in Exmouth on the strand or Exeter Angling
Enjoy
Dave

Re: Guide To Budliegh Salterton

fished the river mouth at Budleigh last night 3 hours before high tide 1 hour or so after fished on the bottom with peeler crab and rag and did some spinning across the mouth but did'nt even get a knock. Might try up near the boat's next time, plenty of people there and some bloke said he'd heard of some bass being caught there so i'll give it another go in the week. What spinner do you use i was using rapala this was the first time i've used it and did'nt seem to be able to get much distance on it.(any help would be greatfully recived)
