sandeels

ok guys to follow up from my "starting out " thread ive been doing abit but have a few questions.

1) sandeels do you mount them whole or chop of the tail/head, (read somewhere about putting pilchard soaked cotton wool in their mouths).. do you use one hook or two to mount them

2) bite detection some times on the back of the isle of wight i have been fishing and not even known fish (pout and dogs) have been on.

3) hitting bites coming from carp fishing, where i knew that if my alarms where sounding or the float dissapearing then i had one on, but im getting bites at distance i dont know weather to allow the fish to hook themselves or try to hit the bites

that will do for now loads more to follow

cheers guys

Re: sandeels

Depends on the technique...

With sandeels, you can top and tail them for general bait use, but if you are spinning with them, you nip off the tail but not the head. The eyes attract predatory fish.
You should also mount them on a pair of hooks in pennel formation, and the key here is to (a) bring the hooks out through the bank not the belly as it will fall apart and (b) lightly whip the lot in place with shirring elastic... deadly for pollack from now on...

FWIW...
