| portland Bill Tactics etc Myself and Empty Seas fished around Portland Bill for a couple of hours today. We started off float fishing for small wrasse and while we had no shortage of bites we didn't manage to hook any. Then we went wandering with the spinning gear and dexter wedges. We blanked again!!!! It looked great and the guys in the tackle shop on Portland said that there are plenty of Pollack about in the evenings taking plugs. We fished the afternoon at low tide so it was against us from the start. It was nice to be out though. There was a fisherman at Pulpit Rock using rotten bottom gear with rag and crab and he was catching plenty of wrasse to 3lb, so the fish are there. I will be fishing the Bill fairly often in the run up to the meet so I can report tactics to you guys. Today there was a moderate wind from the east making it difficult to spin off the east side but it looked great for Bass later in the summer. Whatever way you want to fish it, expect to lose gear as it is very snaggy with a lot of kelp. Deep spinning sand eel should be good for the Pollack in the deep water but bear in mind that there is not a lot of room near to Pulpit Rock for loads of anglers. I have attached a couple of pictures taken today to give you an idea what the east side looks like. Oh, and one of me spinning from the rocks.
