really need advice !!!! hi im fairly new ta fishing (but really enjoying it) im currently using a fixed spool reel (cheapo) and a multi rod ( cheapo... i know brought it without knowing the diff) but im having real trouble detecting bites, the wind and tides (poss weed) are playing havoc with my rod, ive decided to upgrade and brought a penn surf master reel, but im having trouble deciding on a rod for it, ive got about 150 quid ta burn but i dont wanna pick a rod that bounces when someone shuts there car door 200yds away, a couple of me mates have brought expensive rods before and just ended up having the same trouble as im having now.... so here we are, i've thought its best ta use something that someone else swears by than randomly pick a rod on face value (and price tag) any ideas anyone ?????

Re: really need advice !!!! Hi slinky I would suggest you take a look at a several rods, if you are looking to use a F/S then I can highly recommend the Shakespeare K2 range, you could probably pick yourself up a nice K2 Blue Metal for around the £100 mark. If you can find one then try get a K2 Twin Tip Red Metal, I use one and it is a fantastic rod and as the name suggestes it has two tip sections, 1 for 0-4 oz rating (great for round the estuarys i.e Queenborough, Kingsferry ect) and the other is a 4-8 oz rating which I have used down Dungeness with no Problem. There is also a K2 team extreme rod that is quality!! Failing that you can get a Diawa Longbeam (or surfmaster as I think it is now known?), my old man had one and it was nice and light (dunno howfloppy the tip was though). Also Grauvelle make a good F/S rod called the Teknos, which has been rated highly (also on special offer atm for £125 with a free reel!) https://www.veals.co.uk/acatalog/gra...0t-due-64.html Hope this helps Joe __________________ Sea 2012- 5brd rockling, whiting, LS Dogfish,Bass,Eel,Flounder F/W 2012- Catfish(16.5lb), Carp,Tench LITTER IS JUST LAZINESS!!

Re: really need advice !!!! ah smashing cheers joe that k2 twin sounds pretty bang on, il be doing most of me fishing off of sheppey (sheerness through to leysdown) but should be poppin down kingsferry in the summer so the second tip would be handy for down there (apparently theres good bass there ??? ..... would just be nice ta catch something other than poxy whiting at the mo)....... (small poxy whiting at that lol) the ridicule i've had off me mates for me rod (they think its got a rubber core) needs to stop, i'll have a look about cheers slinky

Re: really need advice !!!! The K2 as Joe says is a shakespeare rod so i'm pretty sure Penn havent stole it lol . Soft cheap blanks mean your tip is like a car ariel and pants when theres weed or a slight bit of wind about. look at the daiwa supercast range - in fixed spool on flea bay and just buy the best you can get for your money . A good second hand rod is usually much better than a brand new 'average' rod ! Ive dealt with Jims discount tackle for 20 years - you wont go wrong with anything from them btw __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting

Re: really need advice !!!! ah wicked cheers, looking at it, it says its got a high casting weight, i dont wanna go to the othjer end of the spectrum, i think i'd feel a bit more confident about it if it were the twin, ive decided ta bit the bullet (and my wallet) and im gonna go for the penn affinity twin instead (same blank apparently) but it'll give me the versatility i'll need for round the isle, tis a bit pricey but it should last me a good few years (hopefully) has anyone used this rod ???? __________________ 2012 so far codling, dab and whiting, good start
