| Pier fishing opinions and advice please HI all, Thinking of going fishing on E-Bourne pier today and as a newbie (albeit with a few good catches now ) it will be the first time fishing of a pier. The question is, if you catch a keeper, what do you do with it? - Do you kill it straight away, with people around? - Do you keep it in a bucket (although might have to be a suitcase with a decent size fish) So what do you do with it? ![]() Thanks in advance for the always good advice Peter __________________ The difference between knowledge and skill is practice. | Re: Pier fishing opinions and advice please I would say dispatch the fish asap and be as discreet as you can, try and obscure anyones view with tackle box or something. You dont want to leave a fish gasping in a bucket as that would surely attract more attention. __________________ Steve 2012 Species:Bass,Huss,SS Sea Scorpion,3B/Shore Rockling,Launce,Mackerel,Sand Goby,Sand Smelt,Pollack, Coalie,Conger |

| Re: Pier fishing opinions and advice please If your going to be on the pier on a regular basis might be worth taking some kind of shelter or brolley. You would be more or less out of sight of prying eyes, not that your doing anything wrong but we dont want to give the anti's any excuse to moan. Good luck today Peter, nice sunny day here so might get out myself after work __________________ Steve 2012 Species:Bass,Huss,SS Sea Scorpion,3B/Shore Rockling,Launce,Mackerel,Sand Goby,Sand Smelt,Pollack, Coalie,Conger |

| Re: Pier fishing opinions and advice please Get yourself a "priest" and give it one sharp blow to the top of the head to kill the fish. With the smaller ones I just push the head back towards it`s tail until the spine cracks and that is usually enough to kill it in one go. | Re: Pier fishing opinions and advice please Thanks Joe, I have got a priest, but thought it might still be too noticeable, certainly when there are kids about :-) Anyway., went to the pier fishing, and gave up after 4 hours with Not a single bite (the other 5 guys who were fishing had no bites either) 3 rigs lost through snags 2 shock leaders gone and had to cut the line ones Mind that I was fishing with breakaway leads so the snags should not have been there really lol Oh well, I have got a day off this week, so if the weather is not too bad, then I will give it another go. | Re: Pier fishing opinions and advice please How deep is the water straight down the legs of the pier, if deep enough (ususlly if the bottom is not visable) fish will feed from the legs, if the bottom is visible fish will tend to congeragate around the legs at night |
