rod and reel help

hi, im a new beach angler, and also some times from the rocks, i havent yet gotten myself a rod and reel, as i have been using a friends to see if i like it, and i do! so i decided it was time to buy my own rod and reel, and start to get together a bit of equipment of my own...

I have been looking around, on the internet and a few tackle shops, but i have no idea what im looking for.

I am a student so i dont have much money to spend, so the best options for as little money as possible would be good!

Thanks! :)

Re: rod and reel help

Hi

If you want a quite good rod that is not that expensive have a looke at the Shakespeare salt range, the 12 foot version is often sold between £70 & £100 but can be had for as low as £40, one of their reels would also be a good low cost option as well.

Re: rod and reel help

thanks for the reply!

I have been looking at a shakespeare tidewater combo deal, which is a 12ft rod and a reel... see link below

http://www.spottydogtackle.com/conte...-uk/p2511.html

do you think that would be ok? also, what tackle would you recommend for a basic supply that can be added to over the years?

Thanks
Ben

Re: rod and reel help

Hi

That looks like a good deal and should do you untill the bug and money realy bites. The only thing to note is that with the reel for some reason the one I looked at had no way of back winding, normally the back wind is set by a switch as it is on their next one up reel, but with this one is always on, so no back winding if a fish suddenly makes a surge and the drag is not quite set right. but other than that it should do you, but keep a look out for the newer salt range, their 12 foot version can be had for as little as £40 to as much as £100 depending on where you shop. also think about also think about getting the next reel up in their range, it is much better.

Paul
