Weights I am planning to have a few hours down on my local pier this week. The water is usually quite rough and very salty! I have made a One Up & One Down rig specially for this. My question is/ Would a 7lb mono line and 60lb shockleader take a 1oz weight? Also what fish am i likely to catch? (Bait-Mackerel strips + Squid) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Happy Fishing!

Re: Weights 7 lb monos too light , try 15-18lb , and if your only using a 1oz lead ,no need for shock leader,as a rule of thumb you shock leader should be 10x the breaking strain per oz of lead 5oz sinker = 50lb leader and so on... WHERE IS YOUR LOCAL PIER ??? __________________ Mike.. Take nothing but pictures, Leave nothing but footprints, Kill nothing but time Mike`s Fishing Photo Gallery

Re: Weights what pier is it fella ? the one at Newlyn will get you wrasse, pollack, mackerel and garfish plus the odd bass. try and get some ragworm and use atleast 15 lb mainline - if you get a half decent fish the line wont break playing it but if you aint got a drop net , lifting it up the pier will . If you are fishing right down the pier and not casting you might just get away with 1 ounce of lead - when the tide picks up you won't ! __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting
