| Looking for a pier rod Can anyone recommend me a cheap beginner pier rod? Preferable a 3-piece one or telescopic pole. Also, anything else I need such as float, weights etc to get me started. Thanks |

| Re: Looking for a pier rod Hello there i see your looking for a good spot on southsea and looking for a pier rod. For a beginner Pingu is right about asking at tackle shop, South parade does offer up regular catches and it can be done with a beachcaster. Casting directly south from the pier will get you into a channel were smooth hounds run through and you can also get numerous other species close in round the pier namley bass whiting. Bags of mackrel can be had from the sides of the pier and can be done with a beach caster with feathers, but can be tricky wielding a beachcaster for mackrel. Great thing about the pier is you can get away with having a rod stand. I started with a simple 12 ft shakespeare beach caster great all round beginner rod and still use it now. but if you can stretch it get a decent fixed spool reel for starting out. Good luck mate. |
