Re: new reel suggestions

sounds good, as much as i dislike shakspear reels, both of the fixed spool reels i have had from them have been good
1 of them is a cheap 1, longcaster i think its called, never had any problems with it and i think its only about £20, never had to do anything to it, not even clean it
the 1 which i got recently is a brutus, has instant anti revers and some ball bearings and stuff but doesnt feel like it will last as long as the other 1, this 1s rrp is around £50 i think
im sure some1 else will come along with some better surgestions which dont envolve shakespear

Re: new reel suggestions

i dont clean mine at all, i guess at least i was right about it not feeling as good as my other 1, i have had the other 1 for 2 1/2 yrs and it takes some real abuse and never goes wrong

Re: new reel suggestions

some cheaper reels will last fowever without maintenance. i got this silstar fixed spool, had it forever never clean or oiled. cant remember what i paid but i guess its well worth the money given it lasted this long (some 10 years).
i really dont know what to recommend in the £50 bracket. at this price range there are a ton of good reels avalible. so i just stick with the good reputations. cant go wrong with daiwa [http://www.tackleshop.co.uk/ProductD...-4bf870b75445] the emcast looks good

Re: new reel suggestions

Still got the emcast and it is a really nice reel. If you're just going for tiny fish though it makes the retrieval far too easy.

If you're looking for a smaller reel then another Diawa I recommend is the Samurai 3550 ( http://www.torbayfishing.com/reviews...murai-3550.htm ).

Both have served me very well but I found the smaller Samurai could outcast the emcast by 40-50 yards which did surprise me.
