Watergate Bay

Hi guys,

Booked a week away in Cornwall in May, near Watergate Bay. The best part is my good lady has suggested I take a rod along. I thought it rude not to take her up on her very generous suggestion. . So my question is what's the fishing like here? I'm guessing usual surf beach tactics?
Any suggestions, recommendations would be appreciated...
Thanks Guys

Steve

Re: Watergate Bay

Heard of good Bass being taken on lures from there . Of course it gets heaving with surfers in season, so night sessions with peeler might be best . There are also some great rock marks around that area . I found the tackle shop in Truro to be very helpful for this . Although I only managed a small flattie I absolutely loved fishing in the surf in chest waders with a light rod . Reckon a good 10' or 11' spinning/bass rod would be all you'd need , even a carp rod of 2 3/4 test curve or more should do the job .

Thanks,

I'll give it a try! Looking forward to getting there now. Is Truro the nearest tackle shop? Would you have the address?

Steve

Re: Watergate Bay

Some cracking fishing around Watergate Steve, i used to live down the road in Newquay . Usual surf tactics peeler or sandeel baits ,just behind the 3rd breaker , right in the surf . If you get a chance off the rocks ,gather yourself a bucket of hardback crabs ,and either leger or float fish em for Ballen wrasse, you can use small bits of worm ,but that produces smaller fish, you can use limpets too as a last resort. spinning off the rocks can produce Bass and pollack. Have fun ,looking forward to hearing how you get on . Beware the Emmets ,they get everywhere ....

Re: Watergate Bay

Watergate is a good beach to fish on either the left or right out of the way of surfers and other people. heard of smoothounds off there in may last year, turbot, bass and huss as well.
