By fishing at night you VASTLY increase your chances of catching somethin decent . the ferry pier is a great summer mark when there are bream and pollack, wrasse, mackerel and bass to be caught but for the minute , if you have a rod of 12 foot then i would try one of the beaches at Gilkicker or along at Stokes bay,Hillhead wall or even in the opposite direction towards Haslar wall or as far as Hayling .. Plenty big doggies about ( over 2lb last night) as well as early smoothounds , the chance of a thornback ray ,pout, poor cod, bass and pollack. If all else fails go back to ther millenium pier and fish when its dark as the fish will come in and hang around the structure . use rag tipped with squid and mackerel/sandeel baits for the bigger fish . __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting |

Re: Where to fish in the Gosport area? Plenty of Bass moving into the harbour at the moment. Try fishing the flood tide using big rag bits or peeler. Look for gulleys in the mud that fill on the flood. Good luck. __________________ One day i will post a catch report again.

Re: Where to fish in the Gosport area? i'm not sure where exactly is meant by hill head cliffs, but i'd guess at under the site of the old swordfish pub or away to the west from hillhead wall past the bungalow /chalet site, though i've heard this bit of beach called by a different name, can't remember what it is though? __________________ beer so many venues, so little time.

Re: Where to fish in the Gosport area? an area that is always popular, is the RNLI station at stokes bay, and left of it up to gilkicker point. the further you go towards gilkicker point, the stronger the currents become. __________________ good luck and tight lines chris lifes to short for animosity.

Re: Where to fish in the Gosport area? having moved recently to GOSPORT and for years been both beach and boat sea fishing all over the country, it is with interest and amazement that I very rarely see any dingys fishing in the solent, stokes bay area, I see their is the ELMORE angling club lots of nice fishing dingys, but no movement, is it because the solent generally is played out? ![]()

Re: Where to fish in the Gosport area? stokes bay has a sailing/ fishing club next to the RNLI station, very reasonable to join plenty of club functions, also has a clubhouse on site, there is also a club at LEE-ON-SOLENT, again all amenities. __________________ good luck and tight lines chris lifes to short for animosity.
