Talking Re: what length ?

i make the main body around 40 " and the bottom snood around 2 foot long and place it about 5 " away from the lead and then the top snood what ever lengh just so it can hang and not tangle with the bottom snood . tight lines

Re: what length ?

I find different snood lenghts work in different tide strenghts and for different species. Main body length I make to suit my own casting style and rod length and also depth of water and the angle I am fisahing at. Most of my rigs tend to be 18"-5'.

Re: what length ?

I tend to use different hook lengths for different fish and conditions...its a great argument for when your not fishing taking a walk bown the beach/pier and seeing what people are using to catch.

for instance after whiting and small stuff my hook lengths will be 10"-12" with a rig body of 3 foot but if i'm on a flat beach after flatties they'll be 24" with a rig body af nearly 5' foot.

another rule of thumb is rough ground - short...clean ground - long

Re: what length ?

Match the rig for the fish you are going for my East Coast fave is a long bottom rig all I do is tie a 6' length of leader to the lead clip and a swivel on the end of that with a 2' amnesia hook length. I catch lots of Dabs like that.
Even the odd Sole in summer.

Re: what length ?

id make a few different ones personally, i try and make most of the rig body's the same length and just change the hook length! this means I get more consistent casting if the sea is calm use long hook lengths to give more movement to your bait, and if its rough i keep my hook lengths shorter to stop tangles!! its all dependant on you location, sea conditions and what your after!

Re: what length ?

Hi Gwynexe, sometimes it pays to try different hook lengths for different fish and conditions, sometimes they will want it hard on the sea bed so short hook lengths, more movement long hook lengths, just chop and change and the fish will come, hope this helps, tight lines Boo.
