| taking my dad to Skye Hello I am a new member so my apologies if this has already been addressed. I am taking my dad to Skye next April for 2 weeks and I know he will be keen to go sea fishing. Unfortunately my dad is now not the most mobile of dad's so it would need to be flat shore fishing or from a pier. I was hoping for some advice on places that I could take him that has good access and a decent chance of him catching some fish!! We will be staying in Portree and I was hoping that the fishing from the harbor there might be good? Also I would be interested in hiring a boat to take him out fishing. Any ideas comments would be most welcome. Many thanks Lindsey |

| Re: taking my dad to Skye Hello lindsey, Welcome to the forum! The fishing here on skye is pretty good for things like pollock, Coalies, etc and you can get pretty good numbers of mackarel as well. However April is not the best time as the mackies are rarely here in numbers that early in the year. Some good size pollock might be around though. There is a good small beach at Staffin which is sandy, on the way down to the jetty, but the shingle beach there at Staffin is best for flatties, though a little bit of a walk. Portree pier is a little busy so not great, and Carbost is unreliable until the mackerel arrive. Uig pier, when the ferrry is out, and Armadale, when the ferry is out, can be good. Unfortunately most of the best spots require a bit of a walk. If you want to get in contact nearer the time I might be able to help more. There is a charter boat from Staffin and various other trips on offer mostly wildlife watching, but I'll have a little look around and see if boat hire is likey that early in the year. I'll take a few photos the next time i'm out at these placed and pop then in a post with more details, I can't do it sooner as I'm getting married on saturday and then off to Spain for a honeymoon. So keep an eye on this page! Tight lines. |
