Completely new + lost

Hi guys, I am completely new to sea fishing (and the forum )

I am a carp fisherman but have never tried any other type of fishing!

I don't know where to start or what to look for etc.

I am looking to fish along the norfolk coast.

If anyone could point me in the right direction that would me awesome :)

Thanks

Re: Completely new + lost

Welcome to the forum fella..
theres some decent surf and open beaches that produce some good fish on the east coast..
You should be looking at targetting cod and whiting plus bass and flatties from the open beaches and the basic tackle you will require to get you going consists of

rod - 12 - 13 ft ( 4 - 8 oz casting )
fixed spool reel with coned spool loaded with 15 lb mainline ( or big pit reel )
aluminium tripod min. 5 ft pref 6/7
spool of shockleader 60 lb breaking strain
half a dozen 5 oz gripleads - breakaways
hooks in size 2 and 2/0

plus various items of terminal tackle for completing your rigs - check threads on here for rigs and bait , tho ragworm and lug plus squid will be ideal for your needs..

I recently spent a few days with another carpy and he is now away on his own and catching some great fish !

If i can help anymore , just gimme a shout
Steve

Hi Mate and welcome to the forums.

Scottish has given you good advice there, can I just add that you can also try the local angling clubs in your area. Many Clubs have a new member system in operation where experienced anglers help out the new ones to the sport. This can include help and advice on making your own rigs, bait presentation and casting etc.

Also trolling the forums can be good for tips and advice. If in doubt, ask is the best advice I can give. The only stupid question is the one NOT asked.

Re: Completely new + lost

Good advice from the lads, as for where to go then the wash is perfect as it has so much coasline to choose from, Hunstanton and Wells next the sea, Weybourne (Bass) Cley and Salthouse are my personal favorites around there, though you should fish Wells at high tide as the tide goes out a long way and you don't want to get caught out. The creeks have treacherous mud as well. Cley and Salthouse are shingle and good for flatties. Hope that helps. Tight lines.
