Question Beach or pier

Hi Guys, could anyone give some good sea fishing venues
with easy access for a non-wheel disabled angler.
Who has trouble walking any great distance; in the
kent and/or on the southcoast?

Re: Beach or pier

try Goodrington sands in Paignton, Devon.SW
its only good at half to high tide and the summer daytimes and evenings. but it has easy access and there are plenty of places to stay in the summer. Camping, vans, etc
also Brixham Breakwater is goog in the earlyer and later months of the season.
Hope this helps

Hiya hunter,

posted this lil bit of info on my local pier a while back and thought it might give you a bit of info or help!

Worthing pier.......

The second will be a a section that gets fished for bass and wrasse quite alot! we do get some nice bass in there but the wrasse are only small!

and im hopeing the third pic will be the beach to the east side of the pier where we used to fish for mullet when they turned up but now we just hit the flaties and small bass and stuff!

We get most fish off the pier that are availible from shore but not in many numbers! the only fish we get in numbers really are gars and macks and smutts for about 1mnth of the year if it blows! great place to grow up and learn your fishing!

i dont often fish the pier anymore due to the beaches along my coast outfishing it every day!! so that'll do on that!!
also as im in a good mood i'll ad a bit more info for ya!

worthing pier can fish its nuts off! you just gotta be down there at the right time! the only thing you don't get down there so much now are golden grey mullet! this time of year you looking at whiting, flounders, and dogs after a blow. i think i like this venue most as i been fishing it ever since i started and think i know where and when the best places to fish are down there....im not saying i can go catch fish when i want down there but i rekon i got an advantage to maybe someone like yourself who doesn't fish it to often! if i was to give you a few tips then these would be them..... try to fish the east side every time as fishes far better due to the tide run! for general fishing (not targeting) i would fish just past the arcade there and cast out around 20-40 yrds with a two hook paten on baited with red-rag or blow lug! normally pic a few flats up or scollies and that, if you want to target some gars then fish the same side but right up near the club on the bend! nice bit of tide and the gars seem to hang around there quite alot! has been know as the gar run for some years now...cast just past the jetty from there with a rig of around 10ft tall with three hooks highest 9ft and lowest 2ft from weight! very productive id say! also during the summer months when you can see the smelts swimming near the top you could try bassing in the well! use small hooks to catch you smelts then live bait then straight down! even use bream as bait aswell! not saying your get a monster bass just saying you should get a nice run or two....normally of bass around the 3lb mark! and last of all......Smuts! what can i say....ok keep it short...spider crabs start to peel get a bucket get as many as poss and hit the smuts every night possible...lol its utter madness due to the amount of anglers all fishing the head but well worth the fun! we normally have three drop nets out and really do we have more then one not being used on a good night! anyway that brings me to my biggest fish on there......15lb smut!!! my biggest ever fish!!

Hope that helps you a little and welcome to the site mate!

Ollie.

Re: Beach or pier

Not me mate....just depends on if you know how to fish it i spose...i wouldn't go as far as saying its cr*p though....not many times have i had a blank on there...and in the summer there's a good chance of catching loads of fish.....id rate the venue 7/10 for a regular and maybe 5/10 for a visitor

Ollie

ps, thanks for the coments on my post guys.....just fished the place for to many years i think!

Re: Beach or pier

hi barbelhunter, first and foremost welcome to the best forum there is.
now to business,i will try to point you in the right direction for my part of the world.
in kent,we have parking right next to the beach at venues such as herne bay, deal, sandgate, hythe and littlestone,
we have easily accessable piers and jetties at deal, dover, ramsgate, herne bay,the medway and gravesend.
you can fish out the back of your car at the medway city estate,a small part of herne bay and with prior arrangement the prince of wales pier at dover.
just give me a shout if you fancy going to one of these venues and i will give you some directions and try give you some idea of what you might catch.
sussex is not my area but we fished newhaven last year and there is easy fishing for you there too,
these are all the venues that spring to mind,i'm sure somebody out there will fill in any gaps or ommisions.
the next venue for our kent/sussex meet ups is pevensey in sussex,i have been reliably informed that you can fish out of your car there as well,
why don't you come along on february the 26th,we will be pleased to see you and you will be able to put faces to the names.

Re: Beach or pier

Fishypaul the last time me and Richard (barbelhunter) tried to fish Deal pier we couldn't find a parking space so ended up at Hampton pier HerneBay!As for Medway city estate, last I heard they had stopped us fishing there, is that right or what, as I haven't fished it for a couple of years.Do you know if fishing is allowed in Gravesend town center- the river front between the canal basin and ferry terminal - as last time I was down there they had a notice up saying fishing was only allowed for disabled who had to get a permit from the council.I know you can fish the sea school stretch down to Shorne light, but Richard needs somewhere with easy access and a short walk from the car,so he really wants to stick to pier fishing.
