Re: Devon Meet - Sat 12/02/05 - Main Thread

Well, here's my report on the meet. Got to the breakwater at about 8.30am, toilets were closed so had to trudge to the other side of the town. Got back and walked out to the end of the breakwater (well, walked on the spot a few times as the wind was making hard going for the non-aerodynamic shape of me in a floatation suit carrying a rod bag and tackle box). Got to the end where I met with err, no-one as I was the only person on the entire breakwater. Set up and cast out my two beachcasters and settled down with a cuppa. After about half an hour I came to the conclusion that I wouldn't spot a bite on my rods so took them down and set up my carp rod and fished the inside of the breakwater hoping to get wrasse or pollack. Tried ragworm and, as the water was clear, spinning a jelly worm but not even a bite. Gave up at about 11.30am and just as I was packing away Kev (Wellyfish) turned up to see if anyone was about so had a quick chat. Got back in the car and shot off home in time to see most of Wales demolition job on the Italians. Bit of a wasted day but at least I got out and enjoyed some (very) fresh air while getting a line wet. Where were the rest of you fair weather anglers then?

I did (having stopped off at the tackle shop en route and spent £10 on bait) but don't feel guilty, my company pays the fuel and I have a Tag for the bridge so didn't cost too much. If I wanted to make anyone feel guilty I'd say how there have been a few cod caught recently near my place and I fought the temptation to stay there and fish an excellent tide for possibly my last chance of a cod this year to travel 300+ miles for a forum meet.

Thumbs up Re: Devon Meet - Sat 12/02/05 - Main Thread

Sorry mate but I had a cracking weekend - blooming packing up my sisters house for her move. Contracts exchanged last Friday and only left her with a few days to get eveything out so got lumbered.

If it makes you feel better - I spent 20quid on bait and had planned the weekend since December. Totally gutted but as no one else turned up I obviously didnt miss much !

Sorry to hear about your wasted journey but at least you enjoyed the rugby -enjoy it whilst it lasts ..............

Talking Re: Devon Meet - Sat 12/02/05 - Main Thread

believe it or not, i do actually have a good excuse for not turning up.
i had to stay home to wait for my dad to come down from gloucester and drop off aload of camping/expedition stuff for my expedition training weekend which is coming up shortly and i still need to learn how to use his ex army stuff that he is lending me.

expedition is for the duke of edinborough award (gold).
