Could Someone Please Identify my Sons Fish I took my son beach fishing today and he caught his first beach fish. Problem is I haven’t got a clue what it is and he is desperate to know what he has caught. The fish was about 6 or 7 inches long, very slim almost eel like, it had a broad head with small eyes position towards the top of the head, had a small single barbel just below the chin in the centre and two small ones on the top jaw. The top was brown with a more silver belly. Any Ideas? Thanks Steve.

Sounds like a Rockling to me. Do a search for Rockling on this forum and see if it looks like the one your son caught.

| Re: Could Someone Please Identify my Sons Fish Thanks guys, not totally convinced that is what he caught, especially as the information I found on it, sugested that it is generally not found this far east and I also caught one, but its close enough to tell Will thats what he has caught. | Re: Could Someone Please Identify my Sons Fish Certainly sounds like a rockling (3 bearded). Thought they were caught all around Britain (except where I'm fishing!) |

Re: Could Someone Please Identify my Sons Fish Yep, certainly sounds like a 3-bearded rockling... Can catch them up to over a pound, and have the most beautiful colours, especially outa the rock marks in SW of Scotland...Hence 'rock'ling..! Well done, another species to ya list... try sticky lug, or ragworm, and fish close behind the breakers, and catch his cousin, the 5-bearded rockling, exactly the same, just has 1 barb under the chin and 4 on the head - usually grow between 5 - 10oz..although a 10oz. speciman is a MONSTER !! ![]()

Re: Could Someone Please Identify my Sons Fish The problem is that the barbels, were more like wiskers and were inline withe the body in a head to tail direction. Saying that this photograh http://www.sea-fishing.org/modules.p...e=sea-rockling does look like the ones we caught. Steve
