| best way hi went out yesterday early eve 12 6 10 at 730pm caught 39 makkies in 45 mins, some chooped into strips ready 4 tipping off, some put in freezer 4 the bbq, 4 in fridge for brekkie this morning, rest for big baits, but wots the best way to use them for big baits, thanks for eny help guys. tightlines all graham ![]() ![]() ps i found it amazin how much a carp rod bends with 5 fish on and not break lol ![]() ![]() |

| Re: best way I like to cut the two fillets off and then cut them down the middle giving four long baits and then cut off the backbone leaving the head and guts making bait number 5 - As Dave suggests ( especially for the head bait )you want big hooks or use a pennel rig with two 3/0 or 4/0 hooks to mount the fillets. On the boat a Flapper is the best bait for conger and ling and this is made by cutting down either side of the backbone to the tail right through the stomach and then removing the backbone and tail - leaving both fillets attatched to the head ..this is rigged up by sticking a large 8/0 hook through the top and bottom jaw ( point facing up ) .. Another method is to simply cut a "cone" by cutting off the tail ( prevents bait spinning in the tide ) and then cutting throught the mackerel as far up the body as you want .
