netters

went out for the last 2 hrs of sunlite down to seaford beach last nite to try and get some makkies, 2nd cast got hooked on something, then a little dinghy came along with 2 polish men on board, they started pulling their net in ,along with my hooks, enyway once they came onshore i went to see them to av a go but ended up getting my line back hooks and weight + 5 more weights, 30+makkie feathers and best of all some makkies off them for my troubles, now my question is are they allowed to put nets down 30foot( i could have swam to them) offshore, 100foot long held down with 2 sm anchors, being new to all this is this allowed or should they be reported and to who?

Re: netters

i'm not sure about permission but it must be a safety hazard for boats and swimmers alike,
the fact that they gave you so many goodies suggests that they knew they were doing wrong and were trying to keep you sweet,
if it were me i would report them,if a kiddie got caught in the net and drowned while swimming i wouldnt be able to live with that

Re: netters

Did they have any marker floats , balls . etc with there names and phone no on ,If not they are illegal

you can report it by ringing 0800 807060 which is the EA. Or go to www.cpwf.co.uk and report it through their reporting page. Either way you can remain anonymous if you so wish.

Re: netters

you can be sure they will be back or some were else with there nets.they didn't get nets and dingy to only use them once a year!!! and doubt that it is legal for them to have nets out.
were i live there is a park with a small lake in it that a lot of people fish. there are notices around it now in different eastern european languages tell them they should put the fish back (not eat them!)
the eastern europeans have *~#* up the construction industry don't let them do the same to OUR fishing as well!!!

Re: netters

It's happening in Somerset too and who's to blame? The EA and the Police, easier to turn a blind eye to the rape of our waters rather than deal with the problem!
