Collapsible lobster pots Hey all! This is a fantastic forum! Lots of information and friendly people! I've got a couple more questions for you all :) What is the most efficient trap/method for catching eating fish/crabs/etc - with as little time and energy as possible? I'm looking at bringing one or two collapsible lobster pots with me on a camping trip around the coast - they're around 400g, 60cm long, 30cm wide with a 15cm hole for crabs, etc at each end so when collapsed down, I could strap them to the back of my rucksack. Has anyone experience using these from the shore? Do you catch anything worth eating? Do you just bait them and throw them out as far as you can? Swimming out a little might be an option (not sure how easy they'd be able to raise that way though!). Thanks in advance!

Re: Collapsible lobster pots The collapsible pots are apparently pretty good for crabs i heard. Never used one though. I think in close shores, mostly its velvet crabs you catch. Might get lobsters and maybe a parton in the right area. You would just bait them as normal. Mackerel heads and tails work fine and are easy to resource! So long as its not too windy I cant see much problems. Are you using buoys or just attching a line to the shore? Used to work making creels for a living and to be honest the steel creels, netted and roped or rubbered is the best way to fish. Plastic creels is becoming more popular as there is less work to do. If you are travelling then steel creels are impossible I am not sure what the legal side of creeling is nowadays, i think its a paltry 6 creels you can legally fish before needing a licence!! Happy Creeling anyway!!

Re: Collapsible lobster pots I use these sprung/collapsible traps quite a bit off the marina for collecting bait, usually get a few prawns and small pout for live bait, along with the odd crab. I just bait them and lob off the side of the wall attached to a few yards of thin rope. have never used them off the beach before though. __________________ vicfisher.co.uk
