Smile Report on First Fishing Trip

Following on from my 'Equipment Advice for Complete Novice' Thread, I thought I would let you know how I got on with my first fish.

Last night after about thirty attempts I finally managed to tie a reasonable leader knot and I went down to the beach at about 9:30 this morning, with some frozen lug worm (no one had any fresh).
The first few casts were terrible with the retrieval being almost as bad and I began to think that the multiplier was a bad move. However my casting gradually improved (especially when I realised I had missed a rod eye when originally setting up) and by high tide I was able to get a reasonable distance. Just as I was beginning to suspect that I was not going to catch anything with my poor bait, and was baiting up another rig, I caught a flat fish (a plaice I think).
I also caught two whiting (I need to get a decent disgorger), a pouting and best of all, a Bass (I thought I was going to have to wait until the Summer for one of those).
So for a first attempt, I am well happy.

Steve.
