| After running through the instructions on where to meet for the second time to Talis we eventually met at the KFC car park on the Torbay ring road. What’s this Andy, hung-over I asked? Knowing full well that he had had a skin full the night before!! You for the off then mate? I asked. Has a fish a watertight arse was the reply. (Shame he didn’t!!) We then, in convoy, headed for Dartmouth. Once across the river via the ferry we headed into town on the search for Paul Lingham. Just as arranged, Paul was waiting sat on his seat box near the Old Market area of this beautiful little town. With quick intros and shaking of the hands we loaded my car up with the last of the gear we were taking and headed out of the town. The South Hams were ahead of us and so were the awesome Slapton sands. Andy had never seen the sands before so he was in for a real treat. As you approach this area from the villages of Stoke Fleming and Strete the views are truly awe inspiring. He later agreed. At 12.40pm our two cars pulled into the “tank” car park. We thought we were the first ones there but a rap on my window alerted me to Farmer “jeepers creepers” Kev. A friend of Devondave and the rest of the, ‘Band of Brothers’. (Sorry Kev…it’s just the hat mate!!) We got out of our cars and quickly wished that we hadn’t. The wind was blowing and bringing with it a real chill. Andy made a dash for the toilet (again) while we exchanged intros and the usual banter. Within a few more minutes, others had arrived and the air was thick banter and the like, with yours truly baring the brunt of it. Feeling sorry for me? Well don’t, I give as good as I get, be sure of that. With cars unpacked we made our way to the beach which was only across the road from the car park. More rude remarks were made about my dear trolley. These were answered by my usual obscenities!! I had decided to set up next to Paul as he was the youngest of the bunch and take him under my wing. Yeah right. Within minutes he was all set up and ready for action, beach buddy included. He had his first fish on the shingle by the time I had set up and from there on in, he never stopped. Without being patronising whatsoever, it was a pleasure to meet and fish with this fine young fella. So refreshing when all we tend to do is complain about the youth of today. Welcome to the brotherhood mate. After a little fishing and chat, Ping decided it was time for beer and ‘Ping Pies’! This was served under his brolly all decked out with a pingu table cloth. Nice touch mate and delicious pies. I do believe that it was around this time that Simon gave us a wonderful aerial display using his beach buddy. Simon, I’ve just had word from a chap on Dartmoor. Could you please collect the remains of the said buddy from his Christmas tree? I thank you!! Well as darkness fell, the catch rate went up with a few of us going to only one rod, as means to slow the catch rate down a tad. It was really nice to see the Pollock starting to make a show there. Welly and I have had a few nice ones out of there, over the last few years. At around 7ish we decided that the pub just behind where we were fishing was looking oh so inviting. Well, it would be rude not too. With our gear all packed and loaded we decided to hit the pub for a swift pint. The door creaked open and we went in and although busy, for a few moments I was sure I could here the sound of crickets!! “Outsiders……..Don’t stray from the path” was heard to say. Good beer and a nice atmosphere all said and done. After we left the pub and said our goodbyes we all headed home. After only a short drive I came across the scene of an accident. It seems that someone decided to take on a BMW 525 and had failed. Beautiful parallel parking I thought!! Simon. Im glad you are fit and well and still in one piece mate. After dropping Paul off, Andy, and I got Simon home safely. Thanks for staying with us Pete. Well here’s to what this forum is all about. Until the next meet. Cheers guys. It was a pleasure.Kiwi. __________________ Kia ora / Dia dhuit. - Matauranga kei ana kaha.
