What does it mean a big pit reel, is it specifically for fishing in big pits?

Re: Best Fixed Spool Reel for Beach Casting

Ive got a Diawa millionmax that i bought in 1991,this is the best reel i have ever owned although the modern shimanos take some beating.
I now use multiplyers and can cast no further than i can with the fixed spool although they are nicer to use.
Go for something with a nice long spool.

Re: Best Fixed Spool Reel for Beach Casting

I use a pair of Shimano Aerlex reels which are very good and given no problems. About £50-£60 each

I think all reels need a wash in fresh water after each trip to prevent problems.

Cool Re: Best Fixed Spool Reel for Beach Casting

money no object i would go for the shimano

Shimano Aero Technium 10000XT holds UKSF casting records and great gearing for fishing, a top reel with a top price

But for sea fishing i would ask what would this reel do that say a

Penn surfmaster
Shimano aerlex
Daiwa Emblem

wont do at a quarter of the price?????

I know what i would choose

Re: Best Fixed Spool Reel for Beach Casting

i can only say a surfmaster 70 casts smooth and fast retrieve, feels solid as well and i can cast further than multi, definately worth the £60 price tag, comes with good 2nd spool, dont know on othersthough, hope this helps
