| hi guys, practice practice practice and i thought my cast had been improving a little since i last paced it out across my field to find i was hitting a lowly 60yards!not funny....and indeed it has as i found in a just for fun pre match casting comp at st audreys bay a couple of weeks ago, reasonably chufted that i was now easily getting 100yards, and not at all disheartened by all but one of the other club members achieving 120 130 140 ......and one clever guy smacking a formidable 200yards,they all had fixed spools, top rods, and a pendulum cast in their favour , but with a few tips particularly altering my line drop , even with my multiplier, cheapish rod and over head thump i was suddenly hitting the 120 mark and very happy i was ..........sadly the fishing just as it has been for much of the year on the bristol stretch in my first season of shore fishing was poor seeing only a small whiting for my efforts,a fun night yet again though thanks to my 'cheapish' rod and its slightly whippy tip bouncing around with crab bites and weed giving me plenty of unseated excitement.................not so excited to find on my penaltimate cast my new salt xds reel on its 10th outing had developed a clunk, a quick switch of reels saw me finish the match. on stripping the reel down today i find that the main ?cog? had lost a third of its teeth!ahhhhhhhh!not a quick fix, and im fishing the blackdown open on saturday blue anchor way, with i believe some nice prizes up for grabs including £250, which is coincidently exactly the amount i have recently discovered i need to pay for a four hour fishing trip in kenya!where i just happen to be flying to on monday.........the missus has clamped down on the funds , so all i need to do now is fix the reel, fish the match, win the match and i get to dip for something massive....needing more than a little luck , but ive gotta try......... ![]() |

| Re: all hope on open win to fish kenya Good luck, please don't forget the small fish if nothing else is about for example if the fish is in the dark or even if some of the match is in the dark whiting and dogfish all add up. Although it has been over 10 years since the last time I entered a shore open the best I ever manged was a succsesion of third places, casting just 60 yards and using baited hookeys. I could normally manage about 15+ whiting but was always beaten by a conger or a cod. |
